Each year, from mid-November to mid-December, the UK marks Disability History Month—a time to reflect on the achievements, challenges, and ongoing journey of disabled people across the country. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of accessibility, equality, and the need to challenge ableism in all its forms.

This month is not just about history—it’s about the present and the future. It’s about recognising the contributions of disabled individuals in every aspect of society, from education and employment to the arts and activism. It’s also a call to action for businesses, organisations, and communities to continue breaking down barriers and creating inclusive environments where everyone can thrive.

The Role of Employers in Driving Change

One of the most impactful ways to support disability inclusion is through employment. Workplaces that embrace diversity and actively support disabled employees help shift societal attitudes and open up opportunities for all.

That’s why we’re proud to highlight Business 2 Business as a Disability Confident Leader—the highest level of recognition in the UK Government’s Disability Confident scheme. This status reflects a deep commitment to inclusive recruitment, accessible workplaces, and ongoing support for disabled employees and jobseekers.

As a Disability Confident Leader, Business 2 Business not only meets rigorous standards but also mentors other organisations on their journey towards becoming more inclusive. Their leadership sets a powerful example of how businesses can be agents of positive change.

Looking Ahead

UK Disability History Month is a time to listen, learn, and act. Whether you're an individual, an employer, or part of a community group, there are countless ways to get involved:

  • Attend local events or webinars focused on disability rights and history.

  • Review your workplace policies and practices for accessibility.

  • Support disabled artists, creators, and entrepreneurs.

  • Educate yourself and others about the social model of disability.

Together, we can build a society where everyone is valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
